A New Gender Divide Among Young Voters: For the last several decades, young voters have generally supported Democratic candidates over Republican candidates, often by considerable margins. But now, a new poll finds an emerging gender divide in the candidate preferences of young voters. Young women voters prefer the Democratic candidate over the Republican candidate by more than a 20-point margin (43 percent vs. 19 percent), while young men are evenly divided in their support for Republican and Democratic candidates (34 percent vs. 34 percent). Significant numbers of both young men and women voters report being unsure of who they might support, but, if this gender divide endures, the “youth vote” may look very different in the future.
