What Trumps Appearance on Joe Rogan’s Podcast Says About the Gender Divide

Survey Center Staff

With the 2024 Presidential Election less than two weeks away, both candidates are making last-minute efforts to rally their supporters and win over any remaining undecided voters. Donald Trump’s campaign has focused heavily on courting a group of voters who have not traditionally supported Republican candidates: young men. For the last two decades, young voters have consistently supported Democratic candidates. However, our polling this cycle indicates that a growing number of young men are shifting away from the Democrats. A recent NBC news poll shows a 20-point gap in the voting preferences of young men and young women.

As part of this final push, Donald Trump will appear on The Joe Rogan Experience. Rogan’s podcast has amassed over 14.5 million followers on Spotify, 80 percent of whom are men. The Joe Rogan Experience is known for its openly anti-establishment discourse, resonating with those who may feel overlooked by mainstream political messaging.

Rogan, who once described Trump as an “existential threat to democracy itself,” had previously declined multiple invitations to host the former president. Yet despite Rogan’s past reservations, Trump will be speaking to a sympathetic audience. Our most recent survey shows that over seven in ten (72 percent) voters who like Rogan have a favorable view of Trump. Only 19 percent have a favorable view of Vice President Kamala Harris.

Kamala Harris recently appeared on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy, the most popular podcast among Gen Z and Millennial women with 3.7 million Spotify followers. Known for its candid discussions on dating and relationships and challenges facing women Call Her Daddy provided Harris a platform to connect directly with young female voters.

Rather than appealing to all young voters, the Trump and Harris campaigns are leaning into — and possibly exacerbating — the growing gender divide among young adults.
